Legislative Advocacy
Because so much of the trustee's function is defined by state statutes, UTA's legislative advocate (lobbyist) maintains a constant presence in Sacramento. In addition, UTA may engage legislative representatives in other states on an as-needed basis. Due to the highly technical nature of real estate laws, UTA provides valuable input to the legislature to ensure that laws are properly written.
The association is also active in affirmatively seeking legislative improvements in state law. In recent years, UTA has sponsored legislation in the areas of distribution of foreclosure sale proceeds, collection of defaults under deeds of trust, the language to be included in recorded notices of default, reconveyances and others.
As part of its political involvement, UTA sponsors CTA-PAC, a political action committee which makes contributions to state-level candidates who foster the growth of the trustee industry through sound legislation. Contributions to CTA-PAC are voluntary.
