MERS is Target of Class-Action Lawsuit in Minnesota

A group of homeowners with subprime mortgages has filed a class action lawsuit to stop illegal foreclosures by MERS, a Virginia-based company.  The registry system Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems, Inc. (MERS) is accused of skipping legally required steps – assignments - to remove people from their homes in Minnesota.

According to the Mers website, “MERS was created by the mortgage banking industry to streamline the mortgage process by using electronic commerce to eliminate paper. [Their] mission is to register every mortgage loan in the United States on the MERS® System.
